A Tale of Three Desks

Once upon a time, a creative type wanted a desk to do creative things. Simple request. The creative goes to three furniture stores.

Store #1

“We have this desk.”

“No. That is way too big.”

“We have more online.”

 

Store #2

“We have this desk.”

“No. That is way too small.”

“We have more online.”

 

Store #3

“We have no desks. They are all online.”

 

So, creative type goes online.

 

Online Merchant #1

Creative type has a membership. There are lots of desks to choose from.

“This will be the perfect desk!” Or so the creative type thought.

Delivery two weeks later. The delivery dude huffs and he puffs and he struggles with a 400-pound desk. Why oh why is there only one delivery dude? The creative type wonders.

Delivery dude struggles and struggles until the desk falls down. Damaged.

Three long weeks later the junk truck comes to pick it up.

Three weeks after that the creative type finally gets a refund.

Creative type writes bad review.

 

Online Merchant #2

This is a reputable furniture store. Surely, they can do better. Or so the creative type thought.

There are lots of desks to choose from. “This one will be perfect!”

Two weeks later the 200-pound desk arrives damaged.

Strong husband of creative type, who doesn’t do these types of things, moves the desk on the porch for pick up that comes five days later.

 

Online Merchant #3

“I get all my furniture from here. They are good,” a neighbor says.

There are lots of desks to choose from. “This one will be perfect!” Or so the creative type thought.

The delivery dude places the 200-pound desk against the garage.

The strong husband of the creative type, who doesn’t do these types of things, backs out of the garage and hears several beeps. Cars do this in garages because things are too close. Strong husband rolls over the desk.

Why oh why would a delivery dude place the desk against the garage? The creative type wonders.

 

The creative type throws up her hands and says, “Who needs a desk anyway?”
